Foire aux Questions

Does coverage reach Everest Base Camp?

Coverage is good in Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. Above Dingboche (4,360m), signal becomes very limited. EBC itself (5,364m) has no reliable coverage. Download offline maps and emergency contacts before Dingboche.

Is there coverage in Kathmandu's temple areas?

Yes — Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, and the three Durbar Squares all have Ncell 4G coverage.

Does coverage work on the Annapurna Circuit?

Coverage exists in Besisahar, Chame, and Manang. The Thorong La pass (5,416m) has no coverage. Download offline maps covering the full circuit.

What ride-hailing apps work in Kathmandu?

Pathao and inDriver operate in Kathmandu. Both work well for navigating the valley.

What speeds can I expect in Kathmandu?

Ncell delivers 15–40 Mbps on 4G in central Kathmandu.

Is there coverage in Chitwan National Park?

Sauraha and the buffer zone towns have coverage. The jungle interior has no signal. Book safari operators in advance from Sauraha.

Do I need a TIMS card if I have a data connection?

Yes — TIMS cards are mandatory regardless of data access. Register through the Nepal Tourism Board system online or at the Kathmandu office before trekking.

Is there coverage in Pokhara?

Yes — Pokhara has full Ncell coverage. The lakeside area, Sarankot viewpoint, and the airport are all well-covered.

Nepal is the roof of the world — home to eight of the ten highest mountains on Earth, the Annapurna and Everest trekking circuits, Kathmandu's ancient temple complexes, and the wildlife of Chitwan National Park. Ncell provides 4G coverage in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and main towns, with coverage along popular trekking routes — though high-altitude trails go out of range above certain elevations. Data is essential for the Nepal Department of Immigration TIMS permit system (online registration for trekkers), navigating Kathmandu's narrow lanes, and using Pathao (Nepal's dominant ride-hailing app) in the valley.

Ncell's 4G covers Kathmandu Valley (all three durbar squares: Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur), Pokhara, Chitwan's buffer zone towns, and highway towns. The Lukla airport (gateway to Everest Base Camp) has coverage. The EBC trek corridor has coverage in Namche Bazaar (3,440m), Tengboche Monastery (3,860m), and Dingboche (4,360m). Above Dingboche towards Lobuche and Gorak Shep, coverage becomes very limited.

The Annapurna Circuit has coverage in Besisahar, Chame, and Manang (3,519m). The Thorong La pass (5,416m) has no coverage. Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) is reachable from Pokhara with coverage in Ghandruk village. Poon Hill (3,210m) at sunrise has basic coverage.

Chitwan National Park's buffer zone towns (Sauraha, Tadi Bazaar) have Ncell coverage. The jungle interior has no signal — elephant safari and jeep safari bookings must be made in advance from Sauraha.

Nepal uses the Nepalese rupee (NPR). The country requires advance TIMS cards and national park permits for all trekking routes.
