Foire aux Questions

Is there coverage in Douala's city centre?

Yes — Orange 4G covers Douala's main business and residential areas. Navigation is essential here given the complex road layout and limited street signage.

Does the eSIM cover Mount Cameroon?

Buea town at the base has Orange coverage. The mountain summit area (4,095m) and upper trails have no signal. Download offline maps and emergency contacts before the climb.

Is there coverage in Waza National Park?

Waza town near the park has basic coverage. The park interior and wildlife viewing areas have no signal. Download offline maps before entering.

What is the security situation in northwestern Cameroon?

The anglophone northwest region (Bamenda, North West Region) has ongoing armed conflict related to the Anglophone Crisis. Check your government's travel advisory before visiting these areas.

Does the eSIM work in Kribi beach area?

Kribi town and the nearby beaches have Orange 4G. The more remote coastal areas toward Campo Ma'an have weaker signal.

What payment apps are useful in Cameroon?

Orange Money and MTN Mobile Money are the dominant cashless payment systems. Most local businesses accept these. International cards work at hotels and some restaurants in Yaoundé and Douala.

What speeds can I expect in Yaoundé?

Orange delivers 10–30 Mbps on 4G in Yaoundé. Douala speeds are similar. Coverage quality varies between neighbourhoods.

Is French or English more useful in Cameroon?

French is dominant in Yaoundé, Douala, and most of the country. English is spoken in the northwest and southwest. Download Google Translate offline packs for both.

Guide eSIM pour Cameroun

Orange

Réseaux disponibles : 4G

Cameroon is Central Africa's most diverse country — 'Africa in miniature' — with rainforests, savanna, desert, coast, and Mount Cameroon (the continent's second-highest volcano). Orange provides 4G in Yaoundé and Douala, with expanding coverage in secondary cities. Data is essential in Douala for navigation (the city has minimal street signage and complex one-way systems), using MTN Mobile Money or Orange Money for transactions (cashless payments are more common than in many African cities), and booking accommodation which may not appear on international platforms.

Orange's 4G covers Yaoundé, Douala, Bafoussam, Bamenda, and main urban centres. The coastal road south from Douala to Kribi (beach town and gateway to the Campo Ma'an rainforest) has coverage in towns. Mount Cameroon's base at Buea has coverage; the summit area (4,095m) does not. The Ring Road in the northwest highlands — through the Grassfields chieftaincies — has coverage in towns but gaps in the rural mountain sections.

The Waza National Park in the far north (Sahel zone) and Bénoué National Park have basic coverage in nearby towns but not inside the parks. The Dja Faunal Reserve (UNESCO) in the south is remote rainforest with no coverage.

Cameroon has two official languages — French and English — reflecting its colonial history. The anglophone northwest and southwest regions have a different political context (Anglophone Crisis) — check current advisories before traveling to Bamenda and the northwest. French is dominant elsewhere.

Orange Money is widely used for payments — useful to know for accommodation and local services that prefer cashless.
