Tip: Install your eSIM and download offline maps for the Uyuni salt flat tour circuit before leaving La Paz — coverage ends at the Uyuni town boundary and you'll have no navigation in the reserve.

Preguntas Frecuentes
Is there coverage on the Salar de Uyuni salt flat?
No — the Uyuni salt flat and the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve are without mobile coverage. Uyuni town has basic Tigo signal. Download offline maps for the entire tour circuit before departing town.
Does the eSIM cover Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca?
Copacabana on the mainland and the main Isla del Sol dock at Challapampa have coverage. The island's high terraces and Incan ruins have patchy signal. Download offline content before taking the boat.
Is there coverage in Madidi National Park?
No — Madidi is a remote Amazon jungle park with no mobile coverage. Rurrenabaque town (the jump-off point) has basic Tigo signal. All logistics must be arranged in town before entering the park.
What apps are useful for altitude sickness management?
Altimeter GPS tracks your current altitude. For symptoms, AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) awareness apps provide guidance. The main advice is rest, hydrate, and descend if symptoms worsen — having the ability to call for help is important.
Does Tigo cover the road from La Paz to Sucre?
The main highway has coverage in towns and along much of the route. Remote stretches through the Bolivian altiplano have gaps. Download offline maps for overland travel.
What ride-hailing apps work in La Paz?
InDriver and Safe Taxi are used in La Paz. Uber operates in Santa Cruz. Street hailing is workable but apps are safer for solo travelers and at night.
What speeds can I expect in La Paz?
Tigo delivers 15–35 Mbps on 4G in central La Paz. El Alto speeds are similar. Coverage at high altitude is generally stable.
Is Bolivia cash-heavy for travelers?
Yes — remote areas, markets, and local transport are cash-only. Larger cities and hotels accept cards. ATMs in La Paz and Santa Cruz are reliable. Carry sufficient bolivianos before heading to Uyuni or Rurrenabaque.

Bolivia is South America's highest-altitude country and home to some of the continent's most dramatic landscapes — the Salar de Uyuni (world's largest salt flat), Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon basin. Tigo provides 4G in La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and main cities, with variable coverage in the remote highland and jungle regions that most travelers come to see. Data is essential in La Paz for using Mi Tele O or similar taxi apps (street hailing is less safe in some areas), navigating El Alto's complex market district, and acclimatising apps that track altitude and symptoms.
Tigo's 4G is solid in La Paz, El Alto, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Oruro, Potosí, and Sucre. The Uyuni salt flat tour departs from Uyuni town, which has basic Tigo coverage. However, the salt flat itself and the surrounding Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve are without coverage — these are genuinely remote high-altitude (3,656m) destinations.
Lake Titicaca — specifically Copacabana and the Isla del Sol — has coverage at the main dock and village. Isla del Sol's more remote hilltop Incan ruins have patchy signal. The Amazon lowlands around Rurrenabaque have Tigo coverage in town but Madidi National Park, a world-class wildlife area, is jungle and off-grid.
Altitude sickness is a serious consideration — La Paz sits at 3,650m and many visitors arrive from sea level. Acclimatisation and symptom-tracking apps (and the option to call for help) make data more than a convenience here.
Bolivia uses boliviano (BOB) and most remote areas are cash-only. Currency apps and offline banking tools are practically important.
