Tajikistan is Central Asia's most dramatically mountainous country — the Pamir Highway (one of the world's highest roads, traversing the 'Roof of the World'), the Fan Mountains with their sapphire lakes (Marguzor Lakes, Iskanderkul), ancient Sogdian ruins at Penjikent, and the Wakhan Corridor along the Afghan border. MegaFon provides 4G coverage in Dushanbe and main cities, with coverage along the Pamir Highway in the major towns — but large sections of the highway and mountain wilderness have no coverage. Data is essential in Dushanbe for coordinating with Pamir Highway tour operators, booking the GBAO permit required for the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, and communicating via WhatsApp with shared jeep drivers.

MegaFon's 4G covers Dushanbe, Khujand (the second city, in the Fergana Valley), and main northern highway towns. The Pamir Highway (M41) — the world's second-highest international road — has MegaFon coverage in Qal'ai Khumb, Khorog (the regional capital), and the main towns. The desolate Wakhan Corridor and the high Pamir plateau sections have no coverage.

The Fan Mountains (near Pendjikent in western Tajikistan) — the range of turquoise lakes (Alaudin, Kulikalon, Marguzor, Iskanderkul) — have coverage in Pendjikent town. The mountain trails to the lakes have no coverage. All trek logistics are coordinated from Pendjikent.

Khorog (the GBAO capital on the Afghan border) has MegaFon coverage. The Wakhan Valley road south of Khorog toward the Afghan border villages has sporadic or no coverage. The Pamir plateau (Murghab, Alichur) has no coverage.

Tajikistan uses the somoni (TJS). Tajik is the official language. Russian is widely understood. The GBAO permit is required for all Pamir destinations.
