Συχνές Ερωτήσεις

Does the eSIM work in Cancún and the Riviera Maya?

Yes. Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the entire Riviera Maya corridor have strong 4G coverage. Resort areas along the coast are well-covered.

Can I use Uber safely in Mexico?

Yes, and it's strongly recommended over flagging unlicensed taxis. Uber and DiDi both provide GPS-tracked rides with fixed fares. In Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Cancún, they're widely available and used by locals and tourists alike.

How is coverage at Chichén Itzá?

Coverage is available at the Chichén Itzá site entrance and main viewing areas. The nearby town of Pisté and Valladolid (30 minutes away) have good coverage. The site itself has adequate signal.

Does it work in Mexico City's Metro?

Mexico City Metro stations have coverage in most stations. In-tunnel coverage between stops can be variable. Download your route before descending — the Metro is extensive and the transfers can be confusing without navigation.

How is coverage in Oaxaca and Chiapas?

Oaxaca City has good coverage. Rural areas in the Sierra Juárez mountains and the Oaxacan coast have patchy signal. In Chiapas, San Cristóbal de las Casas has coverage; remote Mayan highlands and jungle areas do not.

Will I have signal at Tulum's ruins?

Yes. The Tulum archaeological site is on the coast near Tulum town, which has strong coverage. The ruins themselves are a small site and coverage is available throughout.

Can I book tours and activities via apps in Mexico?

Yes. Klook and Viator list verified operators for Teotihuacan tours, Cenote visits, Chichén Itzá trips, and other experiences. Booking digitally gives you fixed prices and confirmation records.

How much data do I need for a Mexico City trip?

For navigation, messaging, Uber, and food apps in CDMX, 1–2 GB per week is sufficient. Mexico City is large and you'll use navigation frequently — it's worth having comfortable headroom.

Telcel AT&T Mexico Movistar

Διαθέσιμα δίκτυα: 5G

Mexico's main tourist destinations are well-connected, and data is especially useful for safety and navigation. Uber is widely available in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and major tourist areas — and meaningfully safer than flagging unlicensed taxis, which is the standard local safety advice from any travel guide and the Mexican government's own tourism messaging. DiDi is a cheaper alternative. Google Maps covers Mexican cities accurately, including the Mexico City Metro (Lines 1–12), which is one of the largest urban metro systems in the world.

Telcel has the widest coverage across Mexico — cities, highways, and tourist areas. AT&T Mexico and Movistar have strong urban coverage. 4G is reliable across the Riviera Maya corridor (Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cobá). Coverage in the Yucatán Peninsula's inland areas (Valladolid, Chichén Itzá) is reasonable. Remote areas of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Guerrero states can be patchy between main towns.

Mexico City navigation: the Metro has 12 lines and apps like Moovit or Google Maps make routing manageable. Ecobici (CDMX's bike-sharing system) is app-managed. Google Maps reviews and apps like Yelp are useful for finding taquerías and restaurants beyond the obvious tourist streets. Ticketing for Teotihuacan archaeological site is increasingly digital — buy ahead to skip queues.

Riviera Maya coverage: Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum all have strong signal. The highway between them (Federal Highway 307) is solid. Cobá's jungle pyramid site has coverage at the entrance but weakens in the jungle. Cenote swimming spots are typically in rural areas with variable signal — download directions offline before heading out. The Mayan Biosphere Reserve around Calakmul is very limited.

Mexican SIM cards are easy to find — OXXO convenience stores (which are on virtually every block in Mexican cities) sell Telcel top-up cards, and Telcel, AT&T, and Movistar have small shops in main tourist areas. Airport SIM kiosks in Cancún and CDMX are convenient but expensive. An eSIM set up before departure means you can use Uber at the airport exit immediately.
