Costa Rica is Central America's most established eco-tourism destination, with an extraordinary concentration of biodiversity in a small area. Claro provides 4G coverage across the Central Valley (San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago) and main coastal towns, supporting the navigation and booking needs of nature-focused travelers. Data is essential for Waze (universally used in Costa Rica for traffic and road condition alerts), booking wildlife tours via apps, and accessing the rain and humidity forecasts that determine what you'll encounter in cloud forests.

Claro's 4G is solid in San José, the airport corridor, and main tourist destinations: Manuel Antonio, Jaco, La Fortuna (Arenal), Monteverde, and Tamarindo. The road between San José and La Fortuna (around Arenal) has coverage in towns. Monteverde cloud forest is accessible via notoriously rough mountain roads — coverage exists in Santa Elena but the forest reserve itself is out of range.

Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean coast is accessible only by boat or small plane — there is no road access. Costa Rica's beach towns (Nicoya Peninsula: Nosara, Tamarindo, Santa Teresa) have Claro 4G in the village centres with signal dropping at remote beach breaks. Surfers use Surf Guru and Magic Seaweed apps for swell forecasting.

Waze is genuinely the most important app in Costa Rica — locals use it constantly and its road condition reports are more current than Google Maps for CR's challenging mountain and dirt road network.
