The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of Africa's largest and most complex countries — a vast equatorial rainforest nation with enormous natural resources and challenging infrastructure. Vodacom provides the most reliable 4G in Kinshasa and a few major cities. Travel to the DRC outside of specific organised itineraries is not recommended without professional security guidance — consult your government's travel advisory.

Vodacom's 4G is concentrated in Kinshasa's main districts (Gombe, Limete, Matonge) and in Lubumbashi in the mining south. Goma on the eastern border with Rwanda has coverage — it's the main access point for gorilla trekking to Virunga National Park. Coverage elsewhere is extremely limited.

Virunga National Park — home to mountain gorillas and accessible from Goma — is one of the world's most extraordinary wildlife destinations. The park HQ at Rumangabo and main gorilla trekking areas have basic coverage. Park bookings must be made in advance through the official Virunga website. Security conditions in eastern DRC have been unstable — verify with the park directly before travel.

The Congo River — the world's deepest river — is the main transport artery. Boat travel between Kinshasa and Kisangani takes weeks and is essentially off-grid. Any river travel requires comprehensive offline preparation.

Mobile money (M-Pesa, Vodacom Cash) is widely used in Kinshasa. Cash in CDF (Congolese francs) and USD is essential for most transactions outside the capital.
