Häufig gestellte Fragen

How do I travel between Greenlandic towns?

There are no roads between Greenlandic settlements. All inter-town travel is by Air Greenland flights, helicopter, or Disko Line ferry. Book in advance — Air Greenland's domestic network has limited capacity.

Is there coverage at the Ilulissat Icefjord?

The town of Ilulissat and the icefjord boardwalk viewpoint have TELE Greenland coverage. Boat tours into the fjord and the open ice fields lose signal.

Is the Arctic Circle Trail covered?

The 160km Arctic Circle Trail from Sisimiut to Kangerlussuaq has no mobile coverage. Download offline topographic maps (Maps.me or Gaia GPS) and a PLB or satellite communicator is strongly recommended.

Does coverage reach East Greenland (Tasiilaq)?

Basic coverage exists in Tasiilaq village. The surrounding fjords, trekking routes, and remote eastern coast have no coverage.

How do I book dog sled tours or ice fjord tours?

Book through World of Greenland, Greenland Travel, or direct operators well in advance. Most Greenland operators respond via WhatsApp or email. Confirm all logistics before arrival in-country.

What weather apps are useful in Greenland?

DMI (Danish Meteorological Institute) provides Greenlandic weather forecasts. Weather in Greenland is extreme and changes rapidly — check before any outdoor activity.

What speeds can I expect in Nuuk?

TELE Greenland delivers 15–40 Mbps in central Nuuk. Infrastructure investment is ongoing but the remote geography limits speeds.

Does this eSIM cover the research settlement at Kangerlussuaq?

Kangerlussuaq (site of the main airport serving central Greenland) has basic TELE Greenland coverage. It's primarily used as a transit hub for Ilulissat and interior expeditions.

eSIM Leitfaden für Grönland

Dein eSIM verbindet sich mit den wichtigsten Netzbetreibern in Grönland:

TELE Greenland

Verfügbare Netze: 4G

Greenland is the world's largest island, an autonomous territory of Denmark with a population of only 56,000. TELE Greenland provides 4G in the main settlements along the ice-free west coast — Nuuk (the capital), Ilulissat, Sisimiut, and Qaqortoq. Data is essential for navigating the island's unusual geography: there are no roads between Greenlandic towns — all inter-settlement travel is by boat, helicopter, or small plane, and Air Greenland and Disko Line booking apps require connectivity.

TELE Greenland's 4G covers Nuuk, Ilulissat (gateway to the UNESCO Ilulissat Icefjord), Sisimiut, Maniitsoq, Aasiaat, and Qaqortoq. The icefjord boat tours from Ilulissat have coverage near the town; the open fjord and iceberg fields lose signal. Dog sled routes and summer hiking trails (the Arctic Circle Trail from Sisimiut to Kangerlussuaq) have no coverage.

The Ilulissat Icefjord — one of the world's most spectacular natural landscapes with calving glaciers — has coverage at the shore viewpoint boardwalk. The helicopter and boat tours to the icefjord are best booked in advance through World of Greenland or similar operators before arrival.

Northern Greenland — the national park covering 972,000km² (the world's largest national park) — has absolutely no mobile coverage. Research expeditions use satellite communication exclusively. East Greenland settlements (Tasiilaq, Kulusuk) are accessible by Air Greenland with very limited coverage.

Greenland uses the Danish krone (DKK). The country is expensive — comparable to Iceland. Most travel is organised through tour operators.
