Gabon is a Central African nation known for its vast Congo rainforest, oil wealth, and relatively stable governance. Airtel provides 4G in Libreville and main cities. Gabon has one of the world's highest proportions of protected land (11% national parks) and is a prime destination for gorilla and forest elephant tracking. Data is useful in Libreville for navigation and booking, but most of the exciting travel in Gabon happens in areas with no connectivity.

Airtel's 4G covers Libreville, Port-Gentil (the oil hub), Franceville, and Lambaréné. The RN1 road south from Libreville toward Port-Gentil ferry terminal has coverage in towns. Lopé National Park — a UNESCO site for forest elephant and gorilla — has coverage at the park lodge area but the forest interior has no signal.

Lopé is accessible by the SETRAG train from Libreville — one of Africa's great train journeys through rainforest and savanna. The train has intermittent coverage at station stops. The Ivindo National Park (Langoué Bai — the world's best forest elephant viewpoint) and Loango National Park (for surfing hippos) are remote and essentially off-grid.

Mandji Island (Port-Gentil) and the offshore oil platforms have separate communication infrastructure. The Lopé–Ivindo–Minkébé–Mwagna corridor forms one of Africa's most intact rainforest zones — a remarkable destination but requiring careful offline preparation.

Gabon uses the Central African CFA franc (XAF). The country is expensive by African standards due to its oil economy. French is the official language.
